Red Rules!

2010-01-24

Justin Blanchard-Pellerin fires home the winning goal in the Wild's 7-3 win over the Ottawa 67s.

The Minor Midget Wild are 2-0 in their new third jersey after a convincing 7-3 win over the Ottawa 67s at the Ottawa Civic Centre on January 24.

The red jerseys, a gift to the players from head coach Rick Legault, are a departure from the traditional green and white colours of the Wild.  The retro-style sweaters feature the Wild logo in a circular crest with green and white trim on a red background.

The Wild scored four goals in the second period to erase a 3-1 lead by the 67s, ending the period ahead by a score of 4-3.   They added three more goals in the third to put the game out of reach.

Curtis Meighan, playing just his third game since his return from off-season surgery, led the way with a goal and three assists.   He has seven points since rejoining the team.  Justin Blanchard-Pellerin had two goals and an assist and Alex Gendron had 3 points (1G, 2A).  Six other players contributed to the scoring, with Jayden Lemire, Miguel Laurin and Matthew Ferris enjoying multi-point games.

The Wild will wear the new red jerseys for road games for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs.  The Wild beat the OHA 7-2 when they debuted the jerseys on January 2.
